Technology enables psychologists to observe working brain in action study mental states: behavior: wide variety of observable actions; range from subtle to complex. Surprising results: results of psychological research are often surprising, counter to common beliefs. Psychological knowledge is used in many professions: psychology is relevant in all aspects of life, useful in careers involving understanding people: Lawyers need to know how groups (jurors) make decisions. Advertisers need to know how attitudes are formed/changes, what extent peoples" attitudes predict their behavior. Politicians use psychological techniques of impression management to make themselves attractive to voters.
