Document Summary
Anna admits to herself that she is not suffering, though she would like to think that she is because she knows alexey is suffering. But the bachelor life and vronsky"s old life of ambition haunt him; he wants them back but he also wants anna. Vronsky is not content with his current life. Vronsky and anna go to see a famous painter, mikhailov, with vronsky"s friend. Golenishchev (who vronsky deems is a fit friend to meet anna because he does not seem to judge their love affair) He really wants people to see something new in his paintings. So whenever someone expresses the same ideas as him about his paintings, he gets upset. When he paints and corrects, he "strips off the coverings which hinder it from being distinctly seen" Really likes anna > paints a portrait of her that, in the end, is no better than vronsky"s portrait of her and he hates this.
