How are objects placed into categories?
o Definitional Approach to Categorization:
decide if something is a member of a category by determining whether a
particular object meets definition of the category
Definitions work well for certain things, such as geometric objects,
HOWEVER for most natural objects and many human-made objects,
definitions do NOT work well
Problem= not all members of everyday categories have same features
Wittgenstein proposed idea of family resemblance to deal with problem
