Discussion questions for narrative of the life of frederick douglass, american slave. Ch 1: douglass estimates his age as 17 in 1835. Douglas did not really know his age because there were no records of slave"s ages. His mother was removed from him at a young age to go work on a field and douglas lived with his grandmother. Captain anthony: owned 2-3 farms and had 30 slaves. Blood stained gates of hell : he watched his aunt get beaten and whipped and blead so much and he said he had never seen something so awful before. You don"t have a bed and the quality of the blanket is awful but its not even about that; it"s about the want for the need to sleep (major quote) Congressman and a slave elected to do errands at the great house farm.
