To discover what is most real, what is most basic: some say formulate a commonsense ontology. We learn to explain things to ourselves and make sense of them. The basis of metaphysics: metaphysics the attempt to say what reality is. Are our actions really free: cosmology how we think the most real things have come into being. Is one of the components of metaphysics: what is most real is that upon which all else is dependent. Religious look god is most real because all else depends on him. Scientific look what is most real are the principles and particles on which all reality can be reasoned to be on: what is most real is that itself is not created or destroyed. Religious god created the earth, and he can destroy it.
