The costume designer: a visual artist, a fashion designer, historian, psychoanalyst, method of acquiring clothing, borrow, rent, assemble, buy, create, usually it"s a combination of all these things! Makeup: straight makeup, character makeup, aid expressiveness, adjust or restore color. Enhancing the environment (sound and lighting on the stage) In theatre, light is the removal of darkness. By doing so the designer helps convey the themes of the play. History of the lights in theatre: three phases, outdoor- e. g ancient greek, time of day- oresteia. Indoor- gad lights and candles: fire hazard but audiences could sit inside, chandelier, oil lamps, necessitated by innovations in set, modern- electrical, any time, audience.
