Primary goal was exposing the contradictions in capitalist modes of production that would change communism. Humans exist in a material world and their existence is bound up in trying to survive in that material world: thesis antithesis--synthesis. Economic determinism: determines the shape and form of all institutions of that society, means and modes of production=basis of any economic system, economy shapes all institutions. Historical materialism: social change comes about when an economic system is overthrown and replaced by a new one. What is class position based on: means of production. Capitalism: economic system where those who own the means of production seek to make profits from the goods that they sell in competitive markets. In the end, this strategy lowers profits in markets because even more workers do not have resources to purchase goods made by capitalists: as some capitalists lose out in this competition, they too are pushed into the proletariat.
