Sociology is the scientific study of social relationships,social institutions,and society. Macro sociology:large scale structures and processes(broad social categories,institutions,social systems, war, unemployment, divorce rates) Social perspective and social imagination: the way to recognize patterns in social events and view personal experiences in the light of these patterns. Social imagination is critical thinking/the way to have abilty to use sociological perspective. Auguste comte: father of sociology , believed that society should be studied like science(social physics). The laws of human progress: the theological or fictitious, the metaphysical/abstract, and the scientific/positive. (becoming more complex) Herbert spencer: theory of social evolution(simple>complex), friend of darwin, related to charles. Darwin"s theory of evolution survival of the fittest . Karl marx(think of kamo"s dog): exploitation(surplus value),monopoly,and conflict. Communist,sociology,economics, came up with the idea of communism. He believed in means of production (bourgeoisie vs. proletariat(no means of prod. )) Marx was incorrect because he assumed that the middle class would become poor.
