Culture and media: socialization- process of internalizing values beliefs and norms. Learning to function as a member of society: cultural scripts- behaviors and understandings that are not universal or natural but are influencial to us, reflection theory- culture reflects societies underlying realities and structures. It puts no arrow or blame back on culture: reflection theory limitations, does not explain why some cultural products remain popular or fade away, or change meaning over time, unidirectional-says culture has no impact on society. Only goes one way: media- formats or vehicles that carry present or communicate information. If it reaches the mass of the people it is mass media: hegemony- dominant group creates popular consensus with persuasion.
