In the beginning there was chaos: not necessarily a deity, but perhaps a void, from chaos came, gaia (gaea, or ge) earth, tartarus a deep place in the middle of the earth, eros, Erebus is the gloomy darkness of tartarus, and night: gaia first brought forth uranus, uranus- equal to herself so that he might surround and cover her and be a secure home for the gods forever.
