Document Summary

Uncertainty in measurement: precision vs accuracy, significant figures. Chemistry: in this science we study the properties and behavior of matter by studying the properties and behavior of atoms and molecules. Matter is any material of the universe that has mass and occupies space. Physical states of matter: gas( water vapor), liquid (water), then solid (ice) Pure substance is composition that does not vary and they are either elements or compounds (consist of two or more elements). Homogeneous: mixes together= salt water, pure substance (if it could be divided into smaller it would be compound or element, homogeneous mixture (solution) Combo of sand, salt, and water is example of heterogeneous because sand goes to bottom and does not mix. Properties: physical properties: can be observed without changing the identity and composition of the substance. Chemical properties: can only be observed when a substance have reaction and converted into new substances.
