Hypothesis- made up of variable; most concrete statement; when you do research you have to have something very concrete (hypothesis: example: lsu will win at least 10 games this year under les miles, getting data and testing it. Independent and dependent variable: bad terms, better words would be cause and effect. Control variables/interaction: high school student"s popularity is affected by athletic ability, for male its strong for female its weak. Operational definition (measurement: number of wins in a regular season, defines the variable in a more quantitative fashion, you can count the number of wins, also called the measurement. Sample and population: population - the entire group, cases, or people the researcher is interested in for generalizing his/her findings, sample- a number of individuals or cases drawn from the population for our research. Survey: hard to establish causal relationship: cheap, quick, dirty . Dirty b/c we cant establish a causal relationship (most common)
