Can interpret happiness, pick up on worry or fear in faces of others. Can discriminate vocal expressions of emotion even earlier than facial expressions. This influences their emotional states & expressions. Involves knowledge that we exist separately/indep from others. * 17-24 mos. show awareness of their own capabilities.
