Thus, there is a socio/cultural influence on emotional expression. * purposefully use smiling 2 communicate by end of 2nd year. * are sensitive 2 emotional expression of others by end of 2nd year. * infants can interpret meaning of others facial & vocal expressions. Can interpret happiness, pick up on worry or fear in faces of others. Can discriminate vocal expressions of emotion even earlier than facial expressions. This influences their emotional states & expressions. Involves knowledge that we exist separately/indep from others. * 17-24 mos. show awareness of their own capabilities.
