Girls" self-est tends 2 b lower & + vulnerable than boys. Reason: girls more concerned about physical appearance/social success/academic achievemt - boys are concerned also, just more casual about it. Also, girls caught n conflict are sent mixed msgs must do well academically but if so, then jeopardize social success, get mixed signals from society, puts pressure on them, affects self esteem. Adoles of higher ses have higher self esteem: more money=more friends. nicer clothes, cars, go to nicer places.
