PSYC 3082 Chapter : Test One Chapter 3
Document Summary
We asses a person and their behavior and emotions (clinical assessment is typically a first session) the purpose of this is to understand the person, their behaviors. Equally important because it helps figure out what the treatment will be. Will also evaluate th effect of the treatments being used. First question is always broad: diagnosis- process of determining if someone meets criteria for a mental disorder. Key concepts in assessment: reliability- consistency is the measurement. Degree to which an assessment stool is considered useful. Different consistency levels in tools lead to all different diagnosis. Inter-related liability, if everyone uses same tools you have good inter-related liability. Good test-retest reliability (use a coin flip to determine if he has strep throat. Even though he would be right half the time it is no good bc with retests he may get many difference outcomes. Throat culture on the other hand had good validity)
