Psyc 2076: gender- sense of being male or female; often our perceptions of femaleness and maleness. The term gender does not mean the same thing as sex. The: biological perspectives on gender physical characteristics, hormone differences, brain structure differences, may lead to gender differences. There is also the idea that gender-based differences in behavior may have evolved over time. Typically masculine behaviors like aggression may have made those men more likely to win mates over time, they spread more of their genes. Typically feminine traits like nurturing may have made those women better mothers over time, more of their babies survived to reproduce themselves. By 4 or 5, children develop gender constancy- people are permanently male or female.
