Document Summary

Edited syllabus now includes today lecture including modules 4-6. Endocrine system has to do with your hormones, not much more about this system will be on test. Generated by the movement of positively charged atoms. Ex: it"s either going to happen or not, like a domino falling; the refractory period is when the dominoes are down. Refractory period is when you can"t have another signal. The axon tip of the sending neuron and the dendrite or cell body of the receiving neuron. Ex: transferring something over a river, synapse would be the river. Dopamine has to do with both movement and alertness. Serotonin has to do with mood, hunger, sleep, and arousal. Once it connects to the receiving neuron it will then create a signal. Agonist mimics what the natural neurotransmitter would do. Ex: morphine mimics endorphins allowing us to feel less pain. Antagonist attach in a similar way but they just sit and block other neurotransmitter from attaching.
