Some psychologists do basic research; other do applied research; some do both: therapy. Limitations: artificial situation that may result in artificial behavior, can be difficult to generalize findings to "real world" situations, case study: identification of a unique person with a special condition. Study of one individual in great detail: advantage, tremendous amount of detail, rich source for hypothesis generation.
