Document Summary

Learning: any relatively permanent change in behavior brought about by experience of practice. Three key concepts of learning: classical conditioning, operant conditioning, cognitive theory. Classical conditioning: learning to make a reflex response (involuntary) to a stimulus other than the original, natural stimulus that normally produces the reflex: ivan pavlov: discovered this idea of classical conditioning. Pavlov"s dogs--studied salivation, noticed the dogs would salivate before the food was present: john b. watson: little albert experiment, conditioned baby to be afraid of things normal babies wouldn"t be afraid of. The neutral stimulus can become a second conditioned stimulus. Key concepts of operant cond: reinforcement, primary/ secondary, positive/ neg, schedules of reinforcement, partial / continuous, fixed/ variable - interval/ ratio, punishment, application/ removal. Schedules of reinforcement: partial: after some, but not all desired behaviors, continuous: after every correct response, ratio: response # dependant. Fixed: time or number is fixed: fixed interval (i. e. test, paycheck, fixed ratio (i. e. loyalty card for coffee shop)
