Document Summary

Sensation: sensation: the activation of receptors in the various sense organs. Eyes, ears, nose, skin, and taste buds: transduction- conversion of outside stimuli into a neural signal, sensory receptors- specialized forms of neurons which are the in the brain cells that make up the nervous system. Sensory thresholds: just noticeable difference (jnd) (the difference threshold) the smallest difference between two stimuli that is detectable. 50% of the time: absolute threshold: the smallest amount of energy needed for a person to consciously detect a stimulus 50% of the time is present. Subliminal stimuli: stimuli that are below the level of conscious awareness. Just strong enough to activate the sensory receptors, but not strong enough for people to be consciously aware of them. Research suggests that subliminal perception does: subliminal stimuli in advertising, supraliminal not work in advertising. Sight receptors respond to light: eyes contain the sense receptors for sight.
