Awareness of complex private processes such as perception, thinking, and remembering: waking consciousness- your thoughts, feelings, and sensations, are clear and organized. You feel alert: altered state of consciousness- thoughts may be fuzzy and disorganized, taking bizarre turns. Because it is one of our body"s biological rhythms. Infradian: occur over a period of time greater than 24 hours. Ultradian: occur more than once in a 24 hour cycle. Most are confined to either day or night. 4 stages of non-rem and one stage of rem. Electroencephalogreaph: beta waves- awake, normal alert con, alpha waves- relaxed, calm, lucid, not thinking, theta waves- deep relaxation and meditation, delta waves- deep, dreamless sleep. Stage 1: light sleep- hypnogogic images or hallucinations, hypnic jerk, After stage 4, a person experiences stage 3, and 2 again and then rem sleep. 90% of dreams take place in rem sleep. Rem paralysis basically paralyses us while in rem sleep.
