Document Summary

Tied delegate selection more closely to how well candidate did in primaries and causes in the states. Many stets discontinued use of party causes those that did required that delegates be selected in well publicized meetings. Differences: democratic and republican delegate selection: national vs state rules, proportional verses winner take all, republicans typically used these, if you won 35% of the vote in a primary state, and other candidates won 30%, 20%. They"re kinda independent, they can support whatever candidate they want. Maybe things got a little too democratic for the democrats. Created in 1984 by the democrats, who feared a split in their party. Brought the party bosses smoke filled rooms back. Invisible primary: the process of early fundraising and jockeying for media attention. During non- elections, candidates try to get money and media. A candidate makes concessions to the first states first to get more publicity. That state gets a hella lot of attention.
