(delegate v. trustee system) Relies heavily on cues and shortcuts rather than informed issue positions (name recognition, political party position, interest group endorsements) Elected officials- public opinion may influence government decision making. Academics- seek to understand why people behave the way they do. The people- may be motivated to become active in politics. Political socialization-a complex process through which individuals become aware of politics, learn political facts, and form political values. Generational effect- a specific age group is effected by historical events ex: vietnam, great depression, baby boomers. Life cycle effects- political views influenced by maturing ex:winston churchill.
