Life developed in the ocean primarily because the intense uv radiation and harsh conditions on land. 1-living space: ocean is 3 dimensional therefore much greater living volume. However verticle zonation occurs much as it does on land: land is 2 dimensional therefore much less area. Verticle also occurs but to a much narrower degree. 2-temperature: land-much greater variation, ranging from -53 degrees c in an. 3-salts: land minimal, primarily a fresh water system, ocean high salt concentrations which affects, buoyancy, osmotic pressure, nutrient levels. 4 oxygen: land high levels and exists as a gas, uniform ove ther globe, ocean limited. Exists in a dissolved form with a maximum of 8-10 ppm: some areas are totally devoid of oxygen (black sea, oxygen levels affected by, temperature, salinity, pressure. Animals and trees need strong structural support (skeleton or trunk) upon which other components are attached : ocean sleight. Buoyancy removes some or all of the need for a supporting framework.
