Document Summary
Chapter 3- melody: building blocks of music, melody, a series of pitches arranged to form a cohesive, musical line. Commonly called the tune. most melodies have 4 main elements in common: A final feeling of repose: made up of pitches. Pitch is the relative position of a sound high or low. Duplication of a pitch either higher or lower is called the octave. Most important clefs-treble clef and bass clef. High voices have the treble, low voices have the bass. The piano, because it can only play both treble and bass uses a great staff: smaller subdivision of the pitches. Sharp #- this means to play the pitch between that note and the one just above it. Flat b- this means to play the pitch between that note and the one just below it: this is why the piano has black keys, melodies have a central pitch, called the tonic.
