Document Summary

This was a very well designed experiment and provided a great opportunity to learn and experience gyroscopes. As with every experiment, there is always room for improvements. During the experiment, a digital tachometer was used to measure the speed of the fly wheel disc while it rotated. The speed of the disc was controlled by a dial that the user had to manipulate until the speed was correct. The introduction of a tachometer on the speed control itself would reduce the uncertainty and allow the lab to be done quicker. A digital display would show the exact speed of the fly wheel at real time. Since there is no longer a need to shoot the wheel with a tachometer, the uncertainty only depends on the digital output. The experiment called for the user to visually see at what speed of the disc the torque arm"s shaft was in the center of the slot.
