ME 2212 Chapter : Chapter Two
Document Summary
A product can be divided into different categories based on the functions of each part of the product, called systems. These systems include mechanical assemblies (built of various components), electronic circuit, and computer programs. Mechanical devices have various important aspects of function ability called features. While, function explains the behavior or what a device does, the form describes how that function is accomplished. Generally, the functions of a device will outline how the form will appear. Functions can consist of one component or many different components depending on what the function must accomplish. Among the many different types of mechanical design problems, the main types are: selection, configuration, parametric, original redesign, routine, and mature problems. The design process is constantly making the design parameters smaller as a final product is evolved, through the comparison of separate design ideas that meet the design requirements.
