• Hillary Clinton is an assumed incumbent of Obama and Bill Clinton
o Hillary was secretary of state for obama and first lady with Clinton
• Ticket splitting: buy data; sophisticated strategy
• Least objectionable: trying to portray yourself as the least bad; if you can’t
change the negatives into positives and you can’t get rid of the negatives;
we’re not voting to get this person into office we’re voting to get the other
person out of office

The Role of the News:
• public
media elites (govt and campaigns)
• indexing
• indexing will fade as time goes on
• indexing goes from elites to media
• immigration is high on Washington’s agenda but public is not interested
• agenda items for the public change from week to week and sometimes they
change in long term
• TV is still on top for how people get their news
• But “got online/mobile news” is on the rise
