Document Summary
Learning is any relatively permanent/durable change in behavior (or knowledge) that is brought about by experience or practice. Four ways people learn: classical conditioning, operant conditioning, cognitive learning theory, observational learning. Classical conditioning: russian physiologist ivan pavlov who accidentally demonstrated classical conditioning. Why does the removal of the ucs lead to extinction: adaptation leads us to learn that the two are becoming unrelated and unneeded. Spontaneous recovery: after a rest period an extinguished cr spontaneously recovers. If cs persists alone the cr becomes extinct again. Occurs when an organism has learned that a response to a specific stimulus does not respond in the same way to new stimuli that are similar to the original stimulus. Pavlov"s legacy: pavlov"s greatest contribution to psychology is isolating elementary behaviors from more complex ones through objective scientific procedures. Involves learning involutary (reflexive) behavior: operant conditioning involves operant behavior, a behavior that operates on the environment producing rewarding or punishing stimuli.
