Document Summary

The online catalog is the essential tool for finding anything in a library"s collection. A lesson ago, we ruminated on the relative value of books and articles. To find the books you want to include in your research, you will need to use the online catalog. A library catalog is what we in library land call a bibliographic database. This means that only bibliographic information, such as titles and publication info (the kind of information you would need for a bibliography), is included. If you are looking for full-text books online, be patient. We will come to that in time, grasshopper. To begin, you want to take note of where the catalog is. Here it is, right in front of your face, on the library"s home page. This is what we call the basic search engine. Notice the five ways of searching in the drop-down menu.
