Document Summary

We"re going to talk in more detail later about articles. For now, all you need to know about articles is that they are published in periodicals that are produced on an on-going basis and disseminated on a regular schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and even annually). Periodicals are not books, even though they may be bound as books (annual almanacs are produced in book form, but are nevertheless periodicals by definition). By contrast, books are produced once and only once (though very important or popular books are re-printed and re-issued in various editions). There are some very important differences between books and periodicals. These differences will help you, grasshopper, determine when to use one and when the other. Books will tend to go into more depth on a subject than can periodical articles. A book author can say more in 100,000 words than a journalist can say in 1,000.
