Course synopsis: this class may not be taken for credit by biology majors. Familiarity with basic chemistry and human anatomy is assumed. In most universities, anatomy is a prerequisite for physiology. Physiology is the study of cells, tissues, organs & organ system functioning. The principles of physiology are firmly rooted in the basic laws of chemistry and physics. Much of the study of physiology is the study of control systems since the internal environment must be closely regulated within narrow limits. In general, disease conditions are malfunctions of basic physiologic control systems. The lectures will cover most of the chapters, but you are responsible for the material in the chapters and on the assigned website unless told otherwise. Please read the chapter and work the problems and view the videos before coming to class.
