Types of bones: long bones, longer than are wide, short bones, wider than are long, more spongy bone than compact, ex: sesmoid, flat bones, sternum, found in skull, layer of compact bone then spongy then compact bone. (diploe) Such as vertebrae: sesamoid bones, usually have a smooth surface to them and have a connection to a tendion. Bone surface markings: depressions and openings, fissure, narrow slit on the part of the bone, foramen, hole in the bone, fossa, shallow depression, sulcus, groove, meatus, tube-like passageway or canal. Bone surface markings: processes that form joints, condyle, large and round pertuberance at the end of a bone, facet, small articular surface, head, rounded articular junction supported by the neck of the bone.
