Extension of extending empires and the progressive movement. Great britain, france and russia (allied powers) are fighting germany, Austro-hungarian empire and the ottoman empire (central powers) We engaged in trade with both central and allied powers. The war should benefit american business because we can sell to both. Us couldn"t remain neutral because our economy and politics were affected. Can"t remain neutral because of the tactics used: trench warfare: lots of fighting, little movement, no conquering, main battles are naval battles, ships and submarines are fighting, primarily on german side. Allied powers form a blockade around central powers blocking trade. Blocks us"s ability to trade with central powers. By law, we shouldn"t be affected, but we are. Attack ships whether or not they"re armed: trade with cp decreases, increases with ap. Economically, us interests are with allied powers. In response, germany starts attacking ships with submarines. Allied powers were using passenger ships to transport war materials.
