Hired these chinese people in groups and after room and board it was closer to a month. Since these workers were smaller they were used for more dangerous jobs. Drop chinese worker down a cliff with dynamite in basket and hopefully pull them back up before explosion and collapse of cliff. Once railroad was complete though, the chinese weren"t aloud to ride the railroad. Did not intend to live in the us but now stuck in utah. People assumed that chinese could not assimilate into american society.
