Think about slavery: it is not something we talk about easily. Europe tends to die out. out of western africa towards the new world: after the portuguese dominate, the british come to dominate, slavery as an institution has deep roots. Over time, slavery in western: in the 1500"s, the european slave trade begins (led by portugal). Come brought to the ports by africans many die, but if they don"t die then: most europeans land along the coast of west africa. Probably 10-12 million people were captured, put on ships, and sent to the new world. Only about 7 million make it there: mostly women were sent to america. With the slave trade, their availability goes up: slaves cost more but you get to keep them for life. Servants only get to be kept for 7 years. Societies with slaves outside of south: new england need them, bought by rich people, could have been a health factors, middle colonies.
