The ideas spread and people begin their own interpretations: calvinism john calvin, french, trained as a lawyer. Very skilled in argumentation, and very well read. He was drawn to the doctorine of lutherism. He was already ready to embrace lutherism by the age of 20. One of his friends was burned as a heretic, and he almost was as well. He found people who were interested in this faith. He began to work out his own (a more radical) position. He endorsed a deep individual relationship to scripture and teachings. He went even further and criticized the church. He wanted to create a whole group of people who would run their churches individually and worship together. They were persecuted as well: protestantism for social reasons: the peasant wars in the hre series of uprising that were somewhat religious.
