It ended in the west in 476 bc and 1453 ad in the east: augustus caesar created the roman empire, grandnephew of julius caesar. Anthony were tag teaming it: he was named caesars adopted son in the will, the will creates a power triangle, there is anthony, augustus, and the senate who killed. He creates a new system that gives him power. Imperium this is the power an army commander has in the field, the general in command holds the imperium. Imperium = authority or power: proconsulare = authority of a proconsul, maius = greater authority than any other proconsul. Infinitum = for life: had supreme authority in all areas where soldiers were stationed, army from now on took oath of loyalty to the emperor, not to rome. He has no time restraints: he has maius for life. He is basically a dictator: augustus had control of everyplace in rome where there are soldiers.
