Tension - something that is pulling apart from the center. When crust is under tension, the crust tends to thin out. Compression - outside forces are pushing toward the center. Shear - offset forces are acting in opposite directions results in horizontal bending or faulting. Hanging wall is moving up and toward the footwall. Hanging wall and footwall move lateral to each other. Oceanic - oceanic island arc mountain system. A series of volcanoes that emerge when two plates collide and form a subduction zone.
