GEOG 2050 Chapter : Chapter 1 GEOG
Document Summary
A science that deals with description, distribution, and interaction of the diverse physical biological and cultural features of the earth"s surface. Geographers utilize spatial analysis tools to bring together topics from many different fields The idea is to create an integrated whole-earth concept. Geographers analyze the differences and similarities among those 5 spatial themes. Most biological systems are open: materials, energy, or information is exchanged between parts of system and external sources. Closed systems are self contained (example: biosphere 2[an attempt to recreate earth and self contain an environment-it failed], or a submarine)(biosphere 1 is earth), although a few remain so indefinitely. A closed system often runs out of resources as there is no exchange with an outside source. Feedback loops: a circular process caused when a system"s output serves as input to that same system. Negative feedback loop: output acts as input that moves the system in the opposite direction. Ex: thermostat, global temperature, responses in the human body.
