Document Summary
As a young child, i never fully gained the understanding of the importance of literacy simply because reality had not hit me yet. Through my adolescence, i began to see homeless people sleeping under bridges and started to realize why their lives may have ended so tragically. From then on, i impulsively decided that i would never allow myself to live an illiterate life. I became extremely ambitious to change the world through reading and writing, which are the fundamental aspects of education and life itself. Being literate helps one look at situations from different perspectives and may possibly help one delve into the deeper recesses of the mind to find understanding in actions and events in life. Conquering literacy for me was like a modern day battle of david and goliath. When i was at a very young age, my mother peaked my interest in literacy by reading me bedtime stories every night.
