GEOG 1001 Chapter : Global Environmental Issues
Document Summary
Global warming and climate change: caused/exacerbated by human acivity, affects plants and animals. Greenhouse effect: thermal radiation from a planetary surface (stored heat from solar radiation) is absorbed by the atmosphere and re-radiated in all directions: water moisture, geothermal gas. Human population: human population is highly concentrated, the population has ski-rocketed in recent generation. Subsistence farming: farming that produces only enough crops or livestock for a family"s survival. Industrial revolution: allowed for the mass production and consumption fo goods. Innovation: us 1850s, factory assembly line, huge surplus. Medical innovations: lower death rate, greater life expectancy. Increase in population: with the industrial revolution came pollution of air and water. Global warming: an increase in the temperature of the earth"s atmosphere: changing precipitation patterns, glacial ice melt, rising sea levels, more, stronger storms. Causes of global warming: carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels, coal, petroleum, chlorofluotocarbons- cfcs (approx.
