It is the departmental policy that the course be taught exclusively in french. You will practice the four basic skills for language development: listening, speaking, reading, and writing in addition to exploring the cultures of french-speaking peoples around the world. The primary text for this course is chez nous, 4th edition, and chapters 1-6 will be covered. Students should expect to spend two hours in preparation/review for each hour of in-class instruction. Listening and speaking represent about 40% of the focus of the elementary french language program.
