There are plenty of characters throughout the novel that strive for this typical dream, but gatsby in particular competes with himself and his surroundings until he attains this dream he has altered his life for. Symbols like the green light and the valley of ashes showcases the american dream because it symbolizes the struggles and tribulations these characters faced to achieve such a fulfilling ambition. It is for that reason that i believe the american dream is eminent throughout the story of the great. Gatsby himself, created this new money identity in hopes of getting his true love. Daisy back; which for him would finally be the end of his endeavors, allowing him to achieve the satisfaction he had sought out for years.
