ENGL 0004 Chapter : Chem 1002 Paper Dylan Howell
Document Summary
The question i have been exposed to the most with hydraulic fracturing is whether or not it is safe enough for the environment to continue its use. My question is, are we economically sound, to do without it. There are many benefits that hydraulic fracturing have towards extractions of oil, jobs, and other positive impacts on our economy. With those intact, it is hard to just let go of hydraulic fracturing. With the controversy being new, hydraulic fracturing has been around for quite some time now. It was first used in 1947, and since then we have fractured over a million wells and extracted over seven billion barrels of oil as well as over 600 trillion feet of natural gas from deep underground shale formations. When fracturing, they start drilling underground deeper than the wells that contain ground water. After that, they pretty much create a barrier with cement around the well of which they a fracturing.
