Document Summary

This experiment was conducted to show the characteristics and applications of silicon diodes. A diode is a widely used two-terminal circuit element that minimizes current flow in one direction (reverse bias), while easily carrying current in the other direction (forward bias). The symbol for a diode is shown below: When examining the characteristics of a diode there is the crude approximations which says when the diode is connected in forward bias the diode acts like a short circuit. And also the device is connected in reverse bias the device acts like a switch in the open position. The other approximation which is the standard approximation includes the first crude approximation except that the diode is turned on when connected in forward bias and a voltage greater than the 0. 7v is applied. If a voltage less than 0. 7 is applied the device will be turned off even if connected in forward bias configuration.
