Audible act of meaning: each time you produce an utterance orally. Words, voice, pitch, timbre, and speed -- nonverbal communication. Messages: sets of behavioral expressions, typically consisting of shared symbols, which are produced in the effort to convey some internal state. Lexical meaning: meaning of a word without reference to any particular context or any particular sentence within which it might be placed. Syntax: the patterned ways words are combined to form longer utterances like sentences the form that the sentence takes, its grammatical rules and conventions as well as how conversational elements larger than sentences are structured. Semantics: study of the structure of the units of meaning in a language with a primary focus on sentences relationships between linguistic features and entities in the world; that is, how words literally connect to things. Pragmatics: the study of how people use language in social contexts, how we use language w friends, fam, etc.
