CLST 2090 Chapter : PanNarcissus
Document Summary
God of shepherds who spend most of their time outside in the countryside. Pan saw a nymph right by the water one day and was immediately attracted to her. She was struggling to get away from him, but she couldn"t leave the spot where she was bound. She prayed to the gods to protect her from him and they changed her to a clump of reeds. When pan caught up to her he couldn"t satisfy his needs, so he fashioned her into an instrument. Son of a nymph and he was handsome. He caught the eye of echo, who is also a nymph. She would talk to hera about him and zeus would go off and have affairs with other women. Hera assumed that zeus and echo were having an affair and so she cursed echo to where she could never initiate conversation, but only repeat the last few words that someone says.
