Amine"s major ambition in life is to be smelly old blind beggar of bangladesh. Problem is nitrogen carries a pair of eyeballs (not blind). Amine solves this problem by acting as either a nucleophile or a base. Gets its eyeballs trashed by some form of acid- proton, carbocation, or carbon with leaving group attached. The world is such a depressing looking place. I need to get rid of these eyes so i can live in poverty and bliss. Somebody bump this damn carbon and let me go! Even though alkylammonium ions are fairly weak acids, there are many acids which are even weaker (water, for example). If the base form of a weaker acid than alkylammonium happens to be in the neighborhood, then alkylammonium will lose its proton to this base and regain its eyeballs (and have to look at the miserable old world again).
