Document Summary

Objective: calculate the density of c6h14, ch2cl2 and h2o. Determine the solubility of iodine in each of these liquids. Procedure: the procedure can be found on pg. Mass of 10 ml graduated cylinder + liquid (g) Mass of empty 10 ml graduated cylinder (g) The iodine only dissolved in hexane and dichloromethane, not water, showing its solubility (and insolubility, with water). The dichloromethane and hexane were miscible, and water proved again to be the odd one out. It was immiscible with both of the other liquids. Our results did not coincide with what should ve occurred. After stirring the solution of all three liquids, three very separate layers remained even though the dichloromethane and hexane would combine with one another. The expected results were that the two would combine and form one layer on the bottom of the test tube and leave the water as its own layer on top.
